The Memorial of the Revolution in Timișoara is a place of living memory, education, and dialogue about Romania’s recent history. For over three decades, we have carried out an essential mission: preserving the memory of the martyr heroes of the December 1989 Revolution and passing on historical truth to younger generations.
In a context where recent history is insufficiently addressed within the education system, the Memorial has become, every year, a place where tens of thousands of pupils and students learn directly, through firsthand contact with documents, testimonies, exhibitions, exhibition openings, debates, and educational workshops, what the struggle for freedom, dignity, and democracy meant.
Our work is primarily dedicated to the younger generation, with the aim of fostering civic spirit, critical thinking, and respect for the fundamental values of a free society. We strongly believe that memory is not merely an exercise of the past, but a responsibility of the present.
