In appreciation and recognition of the important contribution made to keeping alive the collective memory of those who fought for freedom and the defense of human dignity by establishing the "Memorial of the Revolution - December 1989" complex in Timișoara, as well as for the efforts made in researching the events of December 1989, President Klaus Iohannis awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Knight, Category E – "National Cultural Heritage," to the Association "Memorial of the Revolution 16-22 December 1989 Timișoara."

The Memorial of the Revolution in Timișoara is one of the oldest NGOs in Romania, established in 1990. Since 2000, we have been recognized as a National Interest Institution, and in 2019 we were awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Knight Rank.

About us

The Revolution Memorial Association was established on April 26, 1990, with the aim of honoring and preserving the memory of the Heroes-Martyrs and discovering the truth about the events of December 1989.



VISITING HOURS

The Timișoara Revolution Memorial offers our visitors an overview of important moments in the recent history of Europe and Romania.

Monday – Friday: 08-17

Saturday: 10-18

Sunday: 10-18

Last visitor: 30 min. before closing!



Activities

1. Activities commemorating heroes and martyrs, preserving and promoting events from our recent history.

2. Researching documents related to the Romanian Revolution and informing the public about the results of this research. To this end, we use various means of public information.

3. Since its beginnings, the Revolution Memorial has supported a multitude of artistic and cultural events, organizing various exhibitions and symposiums on its premises.



The Activity School Program (Scoala altfel)

If it's ”Activity School” („Școala Altfel”), we visit the Revolution Memorial! Hundreds of students cross our threshold.

As part of the "Activity School" program, we were visited by students from the following schools: Ana Aslan National College, Beregsău Mare Secondary School, Moise Nicoară Arad National College, Sfântul Antim Ivireanul Orthodox Theological Highschool in Timișoara, and Gătaia Theoretical Highschool. They were guided through our exhibition halls by our colleagues and watched the documentary film "We do not die."
